RESIDENTIAL

  • Homes with solar panel installations are built to save energy costs.

  • Depending on the homeowner's lifestyle and the home's square footage, solar       systems  offset an average of 15 percent of electrical usage

  • Because most homes last 50 years and beyond, buyers consider long-term energy usage a priority. Solar panels take this factor into account, addressing it head on.

  • Most people believe electricity costs will continue to rise. Given this prediction and growing, green building priorities, its a sensible theory that homes that aren't green will soon be obsolete.

  • Demand for sustainable features and solar panels accommodate pricing for developers, who save money buying parts in bulk and installing them on all their new homes.

  • For some buyers, high mortgage costs are offset by utility savings afforded by solar panels.

  • Solar panel maintenance is minimal, the process is dependable, and the value of your new     home investment will be high.

SUMMARY

AS INDICATED ON STEP 2 THE INITIAL TOTAL INVESTMENT COST OF CONSTRUCTION FOR ALL HOMES WITH SOLAR TECHNOLOGY INCLUDED IS $150,000,000

Goal 1     300 Single Homes x $150,000 =  $ 45,000,000

Goal 2     200 Town Homes x  $175,000 =  $ 35,000,000

Goal 3     100 Luxury Homes x $700,000 = $ 70,000,000

TOTAL                                                     $ 150,000,000 with Solar PV, Solar Pool and Solar Water Heating

  • The value of the Solar PV on a 3 Bed, 2 Bath Home valued at $250,000 for example with a  5KW Solar PV System installation, plus a solar pool heater and a solar water heater could range between $20,000 to 25,000 for the homeowner. This means 10% of the cost of his home and 3 times more than the amount that a builder will pay.

This makes it very difficult for individual homeowners to embrace solar due to the initial costs associated prior to seeing any real tangible savings in electricity costs.

In states like California for example Power Purchase Agreements and Lease Options make this process a little more viable since no out of pocket expenses are associated with solar pv implementation for their home. The homeowner is able to sell the electricity back to the Utility Company. But, in Florida for the contrary this is not allowed only a credit can be generated for the electricity produced by the solar panels.

This fact alone would represent double or more than double the installation cost for an individual homeowner compared to the discount rate provided for the builder for building the home from the ground up and installing solar PV in bulk across hundreds or thousands of homes.

CONCLUSION:

  • Builders lower the cost of installlation for solar PV on homes drastically. From half to 1/3 of the cost in some cases compared to the cost that a homeowner may have to pay to install the system on a home that was already built.
  • If more builders were to embrace the process mentioned above at different levels in terms of price, size and amount of homes, they could help many more homeowners embrace solar and their brand in a much more cost effective way which benefits all the parties involved.
  • Homeowner's purchase a home that provides for electric savings from day one of them purchasing their home. Available savings vary based on the Solar System.  Solar Pool Heating provides for 15% Savings, Solar Water Heating provides for 30% Savings and Solar PV may provide for 50% to 75% savings for the electricity costs for the homeowner.
  • Homeowner's are able to pay the solar pv, solar water heater and solar pool heater in the mortgage payment where the payment allocated for solar will only account for $5 to $27 per month in a period of a 30 year mortgage and save $80 to $250 in electricity costs for a $250,000 3bed x 2 bath home with 5KW solar pv, solar pool heating and solar water heating. This may also increase the value of the home if the homeowner ever decides to sell the home at a later time.
